Unlike the United Nations, some of whose members are repressive dictatorships, the Association of Free Countries (AFC) requires its members to abide by the Non-Aggression Principle (NAP). To paraphrase, this is usually stated by libertarians as "do not initiate force or fraud", by a certain religious minority as "if it harms none, do what you will", by the Golden Rule as "treat others as you'd like to be treated", and by an old saying as "live and let live". We refer to a free country as a recognizable country, nation, government, community, or area (whether separate from others or geographically overlapping) which is founded upon NAP and actually practices it, not just claims to. A free state, district, county, city, or other portion of a country would be similar and possibly easier to establish.
The purpose of the AFC is to facilitate the development of such free countries (as well as smaller entities, as appropriate). A key requirement is that this must be done by peaceful, legal means - the AFC is against fraud, violence, and terrorism. Violence is only tolerable when it's the last resort and required for self-defense (including defense of others) against violence or fraud that others have started (or credibly and immediately threatened). It is difficult to justify fraud at all, even in self-defense (although maybe to recover stolen property, e.g. by conning the con artist, as in The Sting). We see no place for terrorism at all. We prefer to promote a smooth, peaceful transition resulting from education and advocacy - worst case, if it takes a revolution, we'd prefer a peaceful, political, non-violent one, ideally where no one gets hurt. In other words,
We are not terrorists, we are not some racist radical fringe wackos, we do not advocate the illegal violent overthrow or subversion of existing legitimate free governments. Even if you concede that there are probably very few or no truly free countries left today, we do not promote violent overthrow of even the non-free countries. As much as possible, we prefer to make arrangements with them (e.g. by treaty) so that those of their people that really want and are truly ready for freedom can have it and be left alone by those governments.
The first AFC member Free Countries we want to (re)establish are the Republic of Texas (our founding member, already started) and what we have decided to call the Constitutional Republic of America (our plan to restore the American dream; no connection intended with the so-called "Constitution Party"). These were relatively free countries that apparently got taken over (illegally or improperly) either by another country or from within (see the links above for more details). In most cases, our strategy will be a two-pronged approach.
While we work to restore these free countries, we also need to finish setting up the AFC, probably including writing a Charter, and we need to finish the AFC Bill of Rights and other Common Constitutional Provisions which our members use. This is what we are doing now and we could use some help with all of these steps. See below for contact information.
