Original quote from US Constitutional Amendment 15: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." Amendment 19: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." Amendment 24: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax." Amendment 26: "The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age." Now let's put this all together and include anything left out:
No citizen at least 18 years old and mentally competent and physically able to vote (with reasonable accomodation if necessary) may be denied the right to vote on account of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, handicap, or failure to pay any kind of tax. And while we're at it, here's something I've always wanted to add: A person's right to vote may not even be taken away as a result of a criminal conviction, unless convicted for fraud affecting voting or the political system, and then only until the sentence is satisfied.
